   Why offer a choice?

Simplicity

There is something satisfying about the old web, with its lack of styling and its bright blue hyperlinks. It feels good in some way, like well done minimalist art.

My website doesn't have trackers or cookies or analytics, but it does have styling, which is part of the artistic process. But every now and again I like the absolute minimalism of almost-nothingness. Beauty without beauty; clean design by having no design. And of course, this is how the web used to be.

So you can switch off the styling and see the web how it used to be. Does this make you shudder or sigh with relief? Is the information still accessible and easy to navigate? Or you can go back to the styling.

My own colour palette when I paint consists of four colours and I like this absolutism. They are the four elements, the four winds, the cornerstones of my work. It also reminds me of the simple web which had white background, black text, blue links and purple ‘visited’ links.

I really don't know why I am offering this choice between style and no-style, other than a feeling of nostalgia. On its own, is it ugly? If so, if you add a touch of nostalgia, does it all become charming?
