A simpler time, perhaps? There is a bubbling nostalgia that is starting to overflow from our already well filled melting pots. How much more stimulation without respite will it take? Are you tired of scrolling? Are you tired of having a screen tell you what you should be doing, what you should look like, what you should like to begin with and, ultimately, who you are?
This old text-field is where we can plant seeds that will grow refreshing produce, rather than the regurgitated scrapings from big tech. It is why I offer a ‘no-style’ version of the website; sometimes even design is too much and we need to cleanse the palette before we can create again.
Perhaps this is one small corner of the small web; an independent way of looking at work, life and beyond. It is refreshing to see the beginnings of it all, for that is how we build again. When I have struggled with my art, the sure solution was always to remove all paint from the palette, clean it down and then add just four pigments. This was a reset, and I could narrow my focus and rebuild. In fact, the joy of removing all the other paints stuck with me and to this day I use just four colours.
So, who knows, maybe we just need a reset; although I am not confident there will ever be one. But in my small corner of the web, I can offer simplicity; and perhaps you also can offer a garden of refreshing produce.
It’s hard to put into words: it's a feeling, a notion, a mind-etching; it's why I paint.
