Purpose
I didn't become an oil painter to sell paintings. I had a clear choice in my life: death or do something different; (I chose something different.) The directive to oil paint was very clear and very strong, and so I spent hours teaching myself to paint apples until the apples become faces, and angels, and demons. This was how I started my musical career, many eons back; it is also how I started to write.
My work is emotive, sometimes challenging, but always authentic; always ‘me’. I have even had people write to a mayor to complain about my work; which is a wonderful feeling: that my work could stir up that much of a reaction. I am truly grateful to my customers; they see my work, they feel my work, they get to know me through my work, and they don't judge - they enjoy. A couple once approached me and said that artists don't take, they just keep giving, which is true; as exhausting as that can be at times.
I don't have a life philosophy behind my work; I have raw emotion and I guess my ‘mission’ is to get someone to feel something, something that perhaps they have blocked. And if they can stand in the discomfort, whether that be their own fear or their own love, then this intimate moment becomes an alchemical process, and we are both raised just that little bit higher.
